Suspicious Package at Philly Police Station

A Philadelphia Police station was at the center of a hazmat situation this morning.

The Philadelphia Fire Department responded to Northwest Detectives/35th Police District at Broad and Champlost Streets in the city’s Olney section after a clear 2-by-2 clear cellophane package containing a white powdery substance was found around 5:15 a.m., according to emergency responders.

No one was hurt and the building wasn’t evacuated as emergency crews inspected the area.

Fire trucks could be seen parked out on Broad Street as crews responded.

Members of the fire department's hazmat unit removed the package from the building and took it into a waiting response vehicle to try and determine exactly what was in the package.

A short time later, a police officer told NBC10.com's Monique Braxton that the substance wasn't harmful.
