A 68-year-old man attacked a 29-year-old woman with a hatchet after investigators say she broke into his home to use the restroom.

The ax attack in a home near 32nd and Wallace streets in Philadelphia’s Mantua neighborhood around 3:45 a.m. Friday left the woman in critical condition, said Philadelphia Police.

Investigators called the incident “bizarre.” Police said the woman broke in to use the bathroom and that’s when the man struck her over the head with the ax.

Medics rushed the victim to Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition while police took in the man for questioning. Investigators recovered the ax, said police.

Police expected to charge the woman once she recovers enough from her injuries.

A set of walkers sit on the front porch of the man’s home. Neighbors told NBC10 that homeless woman have come to the home before demanding to use the bathroom.
