Police officers are at the scene of a barricade situation at a Delaware housing development.
Police officers and a SWAT team were called to the Swanwyck Estates on the 100 block of Stamm Boulevard in New Castle, Delaware around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday for reports of a gunman.
When they arrived they found a man alone inside a home armed with a handgun. According to investigators, the man threatened to harm himself but is not an immediate danger to others in the neighborhood.
So far there are no evacuations. However, police are advising residents at the development to stay inside their homes until the situation is resolved.
While police still have not made contact with the man, most of the officers eventually left the scene.
"We do not believe the subject is a threat to the community," said New Castle police spokeswoman Tracey Duffy. "We will maintain police presence in the neighborhood."
