Giant Rubber Duckie Floating Into Pa.

A 40-foot-tall rubber duckie is set to appear in downtown Pittsburgh Friday, and that has everyone from the U.S. Coast Guard to area merchants quacking in anticipation.

The duck is the first "Made-in-the-USA" version of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman's creation, which has splashed around in world harbors from Hong Kong to Sao Paulo since 2007.

Hofman says the duck has healing properties since it knows no frontiers, doesn't discriminate and has no political connotation.

That's all well and good, but the Coast Guard was still glad to get advance notice that a 40-foot-duck will be floating down the busy Ohio River.

Coast Guard Lt. JG Devin Adams says the maritime community got a notice "that there's going to be a duck there."
