A major cancer treatment and research center in Philadelphia is becoming part of the Temple University Health System.
Fox Chase Cancer Center and Temple officials announced the new affiliation on Thursday.
The move will enable Temple to create a cancer unit at its Jeanes Hospital while giving Fox Chase room to expand, reported the Inquirer.
Fox Chase is based in Northeast Philadelphia. It has 100 beds and sees about 8,000 new patients a year. Temple has three hospitals with a total of more than 1,000 beds.
Temple will invest $9.4 million into Fox Chase and will assume its debt, though officials wouldn't say how much that was, according to the Inquirer.
The merger still requires regulatory approvals.
