Food Truck Owner Opening Thai Dessert, Tea Spot in Chinatown

The owner of a Philadelphia food truck is getting in on the latest culinary trend in the city: Thai-style ice cream rolls.

Stephen Ngo, owner of Royal Tea Truck — which can be seen on the campuses of Drexel University and Temple University — will be opening Teassert Bar in Chinatown at 227 N. 10th St. in the space vacated by consignment store Abakus Takeout. The Thai-inspired ice cream concept gained popularity in the United States in New York's Chinatown with 10Below, and has since made its way to Los Angeles.

"For good reason, this concept will focus and appeal to the millennial population, who are the obvious trendsetters for food trends in 2016," said Casey Pollock, a broker at MSC Retail. The 925-square-foot Teassert Bar will be opening in mid-June, Ngo said. It will have between 20-25 seats.
