A worker at a seafood company in Egg Harbor City was caught off guard when he turned on an oven and got a flash of fire.
The worker was in the test kitchen at Rastelli Seafood on Bremen Avenue this afternoon when the small explosion occurred.
According to the company's Chief Financial Officer, Paul Zaun, a gas line that feeds the oven was crimped and that caused the small explosion and fire. Zaun says the company's sprinkler system went off, dousing the fire.
The worker's eyebrows and arm hair were singed. He was checked out at the scene and Zaun says aside from being a little shook up, the worker is fine.
The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. at the corporate headquarters for Rastelli Seafood on Bremen Avenue in Egg Harbor City, Atlantic County, New Jersey.
Rastelli Seafood supplies seafood to hotels, restaurants and retailer markets. They also ship directly to customers. Zaun says the accident, which was in the test kitchen, did not affect the company's production line.
According to their website, the seafood operation turns out fillets, shellfish and seafood entrees that are caught in the wild and also farm-raised.
