DWI Added to Charges for Man Accused in NJ Officer's Death

Timothy Seidel, the man accused in the death this summer of a Millville Police officer, is now facing two new charges.

Seidel, 23, pleaded not guilty in July to the most serious charge of Aggravated Manslaughter. Prosecutors today charged him with Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving.

Seidel is accused of killing Officer Christopher Reeves in a car crash on July 8, 2012.

Police say Seidel was driving the Toyota Scion that hit Reeves' cruiser. The crash happened while Reeves and his partner were pursuing Seidel because he'd hit another cop car.

Ofc. Reeves died from his injuries and his partner was seriously hurt.

Timothy Seidel was also injured in the crash and was airlifted to Cooper Hospital.

On July 18, the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office announced that Seidel was tagged with driving violations including driving the wrong way down a one way street, leaving the scene of an accident and two counts of reckless driving.

Investigators say that Seidel had hoped to become a Millville Police officer and in the weeks before the accident, he passed the civil service test but was rejected because he didn't meet residency requirements.

Reeves was an 8-year veteran of the Millville Police Department -- a husband and father to a 2-year-old boy. Reeves wife, Susan, is also a police officer. He was laid to rest on July 13.
