Teen Injured in Hit-Run Upgraded to Stable, Driver Faces Charges

A 17-year-old boy injured in a hit-and-run in West Philadelphia early Saturday morning has been upgraded from critical to stable condition, authorities said Sunday.

Police have said they suspected a man arrested for driving under the influence several minutes after the hit-and-run, at 57th Street and Westminster Avenue, is responsible for it. That man was stopped when 16th District officers spotted him driving a gold Buick LeSabre with severe windshield damage, disregarding stop signs about 1:40 a.m.

Police on Sunday said the driver remained in custody and charges were expected. They said his car matched the description of the one that witnesses said left the scene where the teen was struck.
