Driver Who Drank And Texted Before Fatal Crash Pleads Guilty

A northeastern Pennsylvania woman has pleaded guilty to charges she was drunk, texting and under the influence of prescription pills when she crashed her SUV into a car and killed a Good Samaritan.

The Scranton Times-Tribune reports 33-year-old Mary Timko pleaded guilty Monday to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, driving under the influence and aggravated assault by vehicle.

Timko faces at least 3 years in prison for the homicide by vehicle charge. She'll likely be sentenced within 90 days.

Police say Timko sent a text message a minute before the October 2013 crash on the Casey Highway in Mayfield and had another one cued up to send.

Police say 30-year-old Richard "Rikki'' Cummings, who had stopped to help stuck teenagers change a tire, was killed instantly.
