‘I am a Monster': Drunk Driver Sentenced in Teens' Deaths

A drunken driver who struck and killed two teenage cousins on a southern New Jersey roadway two years ago has been sentenced to 18 years in state prison.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that 33-year-old Joshua Malmgren, of Middle Township, received nine years for each of the victims. He pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in September.

Malmgren expressed his remorse to the two girls' families and told the court that "I am a monster. I am so lost."

Prosecutors say Malmgren was driving drunk and texting in July 2012 when his sport utility vehicle hit 15-year-old Nioami Lazicki, of Middle Township, and 13-year-old Ashley Dauber, of Philadelphia, on a Middle Township road.

Lazicki's 14-year-old sister was walking with them but was able to get out of the way of the vehicle.
