Baby Suffers Severe Head Injury After Dad Shakes Son: PD

A Dover, Delaware man has been arrested after police say he shook his baby son, causing a severe head injury.

Dover Police Lt. David Spicer said Wednesday that 26-year-old Brendon Smith is charged with three counts of first-degree child abuse and one count endangering the welfare of a child. It's unclear whether Smith has an attorney.

Detectives arrested Smith after his 2-month-old son was taken to a Dover hospital with severe head injuries on Tuesday, according to Spicer.

Spicer said the infant had bleeding in his brain and was flown to Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington in very serious condition.

Smith told detectives he shook his son several times in the last two months because the baby wouldn't stop crying, police said. It's unclear whether other children were in the home.
