New regulations are going into effect in Maryland and Delaware for a reduction in fishing for striped bass.
The Daily Times reports the two states have taken different approaches to recommendations for the fishing reduction.
Maryland is changing regulations for inland fishing and on the coast. Last year, anglers could catch two striped bass per day per person. This year they can only catch one per day.
In Delaware, the rules are more complicated. Beginning May 11, anglers can still catch two fish per day. But they can only keep fish from 28 to 37 inches or fish 44 inches and larger. Any fish from 38 to 43 inches must be released.
Anglers say the rules are confusing. But state officials say most fishermen are familiar with the concept.
