Delaware Man Crashes Truck, Gets Arrested on 8th DUI

A Delaware man is facing charges this weekend in his eighth DUI offense.

Delaware State Police said William J. McGeehan, 42, of Laurel, was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger east on John J. Williams Highway near Layton Davis Drive, near Millsboro, late Saturday night when he drifted into oncoming traffic and crashed into a 2015 GMC Sierra head-on. McGeehan's truck spun counter clockwise and stopped facing east, police said.

McGeehan suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries and was taken to Beebe Medical Center. Police said that when officers responded, they discovered McGeehan was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The man was arrested seven times before and convicted on DUIs dating back to 1993, according to police.

McGeehan is charged with felony DUI, vehicular assault and related offenses. He was committed to the Sussex County Correctional Institution and being held on $12,101 cash bond.

Police said the 22-year-old woman driving the GMC McGeehan struck suffered only minor injuries and was also treated at Beebe Medical Center.
