Jury selection has started at the trial of a New Jersey man accused of tossing his 2-year-old daughter into a creek while she was still strapped in her car seat.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office says it expects the selection process to take all week.
Arthur Morgan III of Eatontown is charged with murder, child endangerment and interference with custody.
Authorities say Morgan failed to return Tierra Morgan-Glover to her mother in November 2011. The toddler's body was found submerged in a creek in Wall Township. An autopsy determined the child was alive when she landed in the water.
Morgan has been in jail on $10 million bail since his arrest. He faces a maximum sentence of life without parole, plus 15 years to be served consecutively, if convicted.
Monmouth County prosecutors reportedly offered Morgan a sentence of life without parole in return for his guilty plea but that deal was rejected last November.
Police say the toddler was awake when her father threw her in a creek in Shark River Park after he allegedly tied a carjack to his daughter's car seat to weigh her down.
Morgan then went to a friend's house for a few drinks before hopping a train to San Diego were he was later arrested, according to police.
School children found the baby's body face down in the creek.
