Local Convenience Stores Sold

Some tri-state convenience stores are changing hands.

The Massachusetts-based Cumberland Farms convenience store chain has reached an agreement to sell more than two dozen stores in New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Cumberland Farms, based in Framingham, said the 27 stores are being sold to Petroleum Marketing Group of Woodbridge, Va.

"As part of the agreement, driven by Cumberland Farms’ commitment to its employees, team members working in these stores will have the opportunity to continue employment with PMG, which plans to continue operating these locations as convenience stores," said Cumberland Farms spokesman Derek Beckwith.

Both companies are privately-owned and the price of the transaction was not disclosed.

Cumberland Farms, which started as a farm in 1939 and opened its first store in 1962, will focus on its nearly 600 remaining stores in New England, New York and Florida.
