Councilman Doesn’t Want Philadelphians to Auction Parking Spots

Councilman Bill Greenlee doesn’t want Philly residents to auction their hard-earned free parking spot through the app, Monkey parking, which just came the city that inspired Parking Wars.

Philadelphia residents are torn on the topic. While some support the idea, others are unsure if it’s practical to auction free parking.

"I think it's a good idea, but I also see the apprehension," said South Philly resident Spencer Morton. "It does seem like it could happen in the city, especially in this city."

The bill was introduced in City Council Thursday to prevent people from trying to negotiate a price for a free parking spot that is otherwise hard to find.

Councilman Greenlee said he sees potential for violence in the exchange.

South Philly resident Robin Pitt thinks the whole idea is just wrong.

"I don't think you should have to pay for a free parking space,” said Pitt. "This is America, land of the free, survival of the fittest. You get your parking space."
