Corporate Executive Accused of Stealing From Police and Fire Supply Store

Thomas Wessells, 55, has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $195,000 worth of products from the Witmer Public Safety Group (WSPG) in Chester County and selling them on eBay.

WSPG sells police and fire supplies to first responders. The defendant was the Director of Order Fulfillment for WSPG. The alleged thefts were only discovered after he was terminated in 2014 for viewing pornography on a company computer and violating the company’s sexual harassment policy.

Among the items stolen were police rifle scopes and firefighter helmet lights. Police say Wessells made over 2,000 sales on eBay with the stolen products.

“It always comes back as a shock to find out that one of your own employees has been stealing from you,” said Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan. “Businesses know how to protect themselves from armed robbers, burglars, hackers, and other outside threats. However, a business it often most vulnerable to fraud conducted by a trusted insider like the defendant here. At the end of the day, these defendants are always betrayed by their own greed and stupidity.”
