Christie Takes Lawmakers to Task via Twitter

NJ Governor’s Tweets and town hall renew attack on NJ Legislature

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie wants state legislators to take action on his agenda.

On Tuesday, the message was sent via @GovChristie on Twitter: “376 days since I proposed ethics reforms 2 clean up Trenton. Time for legislature 2 act now 2 strengthen accountability.”

Later, the governor drove the message home at a town hall meeting in Union County. He called on lawmakers to move a package of bills strengthening disclosure requirements, restrict “pay to play” practices and ban elected officials from holding multiple offices.

The governor called the lack of movement on the bills an “ethical lapse.”

“We look like Washington,” Christie said.

“On Mar 30, 2011 legislation was introduced to make gov't boards & agencies more transparent. Nothing from legislature 173 days later,” said another @GovChristie post on Twitter.

The town hall event -- Christie's first since taking the summer off -- was held at the Boys and Girls Club in the heavily Democratic town of Union.

It was the first town hall he's held since striking a deal with Democratic Legislative leaders to overhaul the state's pension and health benefits programs.

A couple dozen police and firefighters protested the event outside. But Christie was greeted with a standing ovation inside.

Another town hall is set for Wednesday in Sayreville at 11:30 a.m.
