Philadelphia fire officials say it was natural gas and a furnace glow plug that caused January’s fatal explosion in the Tacony section of Philadelphia.
The violent Jan. 18 explosion that killed 19-year-old PGW worker Mark Keeley was caught on tape by an NBC Philadelphia videographer.
The explosion and blazing fire that followed lit up the 6900 block of Torresdale Avenue. PGW crews had been working to patch a high-pressure gas main break just before the explosion.
Fire officials say that the cause of the explosion was an accumulation of natural gas within a building which was then ignited by a furnace glow plug.
The blast leveld an entire building, as well as part of another and was felt across the river in New Jersey.
