Car Hits, Kills Construction Worker on Chester County Highway

A construction worker is dead after a car struck him along Route 422 late Wednesday night.

The project superintendent, identified as 60-year-old Lee Boyer of Liberty, Pennsylvania, was setting up cones as part of a crew completing ongoing roadwork on Route 422 around 11 p.m. when the vehicle hit him as he stood on the westbound side of the highway near the exit for Route 100 in North Coventry Township, police said.

The driver of the striking car remained at the scene.

The deadly accident caused officials to close a portion of Route 422 overnight. The westbound lanes were reopened around 4 a.m.

No word yet on whether the driver will face charges. Accident investigators are reconstructing the crash to determine exactly what occurred.
