Man Charged with Vehicular Homicide After Death of Teen Soccer Player: Prosecutors

A man who authorities say was under the influence of drugs when he caused a crash that killed a teenage soccer player is now charged with vehicular homicide.

Atlantic County prosecutors say 40-year Nicholas Garreffi, of Vineland, was driving a pickup truck on Route 40 in Hamilton Township when he crossed the center line last August. He collided with a box truck, then struck a car carrying several soccer players from Mainland Regional High School who were on their way to a charity tournament.

Aisling Cooke, a 14-year-old Linwood resident who was a passenger in the car, died a few days later.

Garreffi was freed on $50,000 bail following the crash. The vehicular homicide charge was filed Monday and made public on Tuesday.

A telephone number for Garreffi could not be located Tuesday.
