Alleged Robbery Attempt Leaves Man Dead

Police say an apparent attempted robbery outside a Philadelphia-area tavern ended with one man dead and another hospitalized.

Authorities said a 31-year-old Chester man armed with a handgun apparently tried to rob a 22-year-old Marcus Hook man outside Bill's Tavern in the city of Chester just before 1 a.m. Sunday.

Detective James Nolan said the younger man had a permit to carry a concealed weapon and exchanged fire with the robber, who was illegally carrying his weapon.

Both were taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where the older man was pronounced dead and the younger man was in serious condition.

The names of both men have not been released. Nolan said police would finish their investigation and prosecutors would decide whether any charges would be filed.
