Woman Dies After Being Found Severely Beaten Inside Hunting Park Home

A woman has died after being found severely beaten inside the bedroom of a home in Philadelphia's Hunting Park neighborhood Thursday, police said.

The 49-year-old woman's body was discovered just after 1 p.m. Thursday in the 2nd floor bedroom of a home along the unit block of N. Percy Street, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The woman's identity is being withheld as authorities continue to notify her family.

NBC10's Brandon Smith was able to speak with some family members and friends who say the woman volunteered her time at a local church.

Santee Weddington, the victim's son-in-law, said he can't fathom what happened to her.

"To grip some of the things mentally in your head that happened to my mother-in-law...one can't sleep for a week or two," he said. Compounding the pain of his mother-in-law's death is the death of his own mother just a few days ago.

Homicide detectives are investigating the death. A possible suspect or motive was not immediately known.

But the woman's family and friends say they have an idea of who may have committed the crime. They are speaking with detectives.

While police continued their investigation Thursday evening, the woman's loved ones joined hands to pray outside her home.
