Man Opens Fire at University Basketball Court

A fistfight during a pickup basketball game ended in gunfire at an area university earlier this week.

University of Delaware police say shots were fired on campus after a dispute on a basketball court.

University police Chief Patrick Ogden says two men began arguing during a game on Monday night just before 11 at the university's Laird Campus in Newark and the dispute turned into a fistfight.

Ogden says after the fight broke up, one of the men got a gun from his car, returned to the court and fired several rounds at the man he was fighting with. He says the other man's car was hit at least twice.

The gunman and several other men fled towards Christiana Towers in a silver, four-door sedan.

University of Delaware students aren't expected to move onto campus until Friday.
