Father Charged in Loaded Gun Standoff

All ended peacefully after a tense standoff involving a young father who allegedly held his kids hostage inside an apartment but that doesn't mean the man is off the hook.

Numerous charges have been filed against the Trenton man who allegedly held his two young children and their mother hostage during a lengthy standoff at a city apartment building on the 200 block of Coolidge Avenue.

Police responded to the scene around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Trenton Police.

Kevin Robinson faces three counts of kidnapping and two counts each of aggravated assault and child endangerment. The 21-year-old is also charged with weapons offenses and making terroristic threats.

The charges stem from a four-hour standoff that occurred early Tuesday at an apartment building where the woman and the children live in the city's West Ward. Authorities say Robinson came to the apartment either late Monday or early Tuesday, and an argument soon ensued between him and the 19-year-old woman, whose name was not released.

The woman eventually sent a text message to her father that claimed Robinson was holding her in the apartment at gunpoint. Her father called 911, and police arrived at the apartment a short time later.

Authorities say Robinson had his 3-year-old daughter with him throughout the standoff, but the woman and their year-old son were able to escape shortly after it started. The children were not hurt during the standoff, but the woman suffered minor injuries to her back, head, and arm.

Police found a loaded revolver inside the apartment shortly after the standoff ended.
