PHILADELPHIA (AP )- Two women and a young girl have died as a result of a fast-moving row house fire that broke out just after midnight in the Brewerytown section of Philadelphia, said fire officials.
The grandmother jumped from a second-story window and was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital with burns and a head injury, said Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
When firefighters entered the two-story house they found the woman's 48-year-old daughter and 9-year-old granddaughter dead in upstairs bedrooms, said Ayers. There was no immediate word on the causes of death.
Ayers called the blaze a "hot, fast fire" and said those on the second floor "didn't have a chance." There were no working smoke detectors in the house on Newkirk Street, he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
