Thieves Steal Hospital X-rays For Silver

Three local hospitals report X-ray thefts.

Police in three counties are on the lookout for thieves who have stolen X-rays from area hospitals in order to obtain the silver they contain.

Three hospitals report the thefts: Lankenau Hospital in Montgomery County, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and Grandview Hospital in Bucks County.

In the Grandview case, police said two thieves were caught on surveillance video on September 6. They fled in a white SUV with Indiana plates, according to police.

Investigators said the three men posed as workers for a silver recycling company, walked in the front door of one hospital and left with 200 pounds of X-ray material.

The silver in the X-rays can be extracted when they are recycled.

Silver is selling at an all-time high of $30 dollars an ounce.
