A 13-year-old girl was able to escape after she was grabbed in a Delaware grocery store parking lot and forced into a car, Newark police said.

The girl told police she was walking through the rear of the Pathmark parking lot in the 100 block of College Square around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, when the man forced her into a car.

The girl told investigators that the man tried to sexually assault her as he drove, but she was able to get out and flee, police reported. The girl did not require treatment for a minor injury.

The girl described the man as about 5 feet 6 inches tall with short, spiked hair, a tattoo under his left eye and facial acne.

She told police he was driving a black four-door sedan with heavily tinted windows and chrome rims displaying Pennsylvania registration.
