Police say that the dog that went missing while in the care of a New Jersey pet store was not returned alive as the store reported last week, according to PhillyBurbs.com.
The 1-year-old Yorkie-bichon mix, Midnight, was reported missing by the Delran Pets Plus. They say that last Wednesday, the pup was in for grooming when he slipped out of his collar and ran away.
Two days later, Pets Plus manager Josh Salyer told NBC Philadelphia that the dog was found near the store and that he "is fine," and back with his owners.
Midnight’s family, however, tell a different story.
Owner Monifa Wilson, says the dog was found dead last Thursday night, according to the paper.
According to authorities, the pooch was hit by a car.
“My daughter was getting text messages from people congratulating her for her dog being found. I don’t know why (Salyer) can think he can get away with telling everyone it’s a happy story when my dog is in their freezer,” Wilson tells PhillyBurbs.com.
The paper reports that when contacted for a comment, the store denied that Salyer ever said the dog was alive, although he was quoted as saying “I was just notified that he was found a few blocks away. He’s OK.”
