Gun Trafficker Linked to Cop Murder

Jury told of link after verdict was decided

A federal jury that convicted a Philadelphia man on gun-trafficking charges learned afterward that one of the weapons killed a city police officer. Jurors appeared stunned as the judge told them.

Jurors on Tuesday found 32-year-old Stephen Lashley guilty of illegally possessing and transporting firearms. Lashley bought two weapons in South Carolina and brought them to Philadelphia.

Daniel Giddings used one of the guns to kill police Officer Patrick McDonald after a traffic stop last year in North Philadelphia. Police then shot and killed Giddings.

The jury learned the gun was used in the killing only after deciding Lashley's fate.

Lashley is not facing charges in the murder.
