A defense attorney confirmed he's been hired by a man whose gun accidentally fired during a crowded Easter vigil Mass at a central Pennsylvania cathedral.
But that attorney, Dan Kiss, tells The Altoona Mirror he can't comment because the law firm is still investigating the incident involving his client, 29-year-old Matthew Crawford, of Altoona.
Altoona police say the man was grazed by the bullet when the weapon snagged on his pants and fired around 11 p.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
Bishop Mark Bartchak of the Altoona-Johnstown diocese has since said "guns have no place in our cathedral or any of the other parishes in our diocese."
Police and the district attorney are considering criminal charges, but say the man had a permit to legally carry the gun in his pocket.
