Police have arrested a 37-year-old woman in connection with the stabbing death of an army war veteran inside his West Philadelphia home last week.

Carol Harris, who sources tell NBC10 was the man’s live-in girlfriend, was charged with murder and possessing an instrument of crime Sunday.

On Friday, police were called to the 5300 block of Poplar Street around 9 a.m. after a family member found the body of Peter Miles, 59, on the second floor of his home. He was stabbed multiple times and had a pillow over his face, according to police.

Sources tell NBC10's Deanna Durante that a relative went to check on Miles because he hadn't heard from him in a few days.

Miles was described as caring and loving, and family members say he helped everyone he could.

"He was a veteran, he worked hard. He just was so peaceful and for him to experience something like that, for him to go in the manner that he did, is horrible," said Lynnette Hatten, niece.

As of March 17, there were 42 homicides in Philadelphia.
