Kids Throw Rock at Bus, Injure 8-Year-Old Girl: Cops

What began as mere mischief soon turned into a serious situation for two Egg Harbor Township kids, according to police.

Two 12-year-olds were arrested on Monday after allegedly throwing rocks off an overpass, injuring an 8-year-old girl in the process.

Police have investigated debris being thrown at motorists from the Fire Road overpass onto the Atlantic City Expressway since June 1.

Police say that 18 incidents were reported in all, with numerous motorists claiming that their vehicles were struck.

Monday’s alleged incident was the most serious however. Police say that shortly before 8 p.m., the two kids threw a rock at a greyhound bus. The rock shattered a window, causing glass to fly into the face of an 8-year-old girl. Its unknown at this time how badly the girl was injured.

Police also say that around the same time they received a report of a rock being thrown into the windshield of a car though the driver was not injured.

State Police troopers say that they spotted the two 12-year-olds in the act shortly after. The troopers chased after the kids who tried to escape. They eventually caught and arrested them.

The two juveniles were charged with aggravated assault, criminal mischief, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and interference with transportation.

The kids were released to their parents. Police say that the parents will be held accountable for the damage done to cars.
