John du Pont shot and killed Olympic gold medal wrestler David Schultz, whose family was living on du Pont's 800-acre estate. du Pont was captured on his estate aftera 48-hour standoff with police.

John du Pont, the multimillionaire chemical heir convicted of murdering an Olympic athlete in 1996, has lost a bid for parole.

A jury found du Pont guilty but mentally ill in 1997 in the shooting death of gold medal-winning wrestler David Schultz.

Du Pont was sentenced to 13 to 30 years in prison, but first was treated for three months at Norristown State Hospital.

His attorney, Tara Wochok, says the 70-year-old du Pont is now at the state prison at Mercer in western Pennsylvania. Wochok says du Pont's parole petition was turned down last month.

Delaware County District Attorney Michael Green says that was because of the brutal way in which Schultz died, and because du Pont has not taken responsibility or shown remorse.
