“Huffing” Driver Pleads Guilty

A Havertown woman who was huffing an aerosol can before she lost control of her car and ran over two women, killing one outside Delaware County Memorial Hospital pleaded guilty to homicide Monday.

Rachel Jankins, 20, was sentenced to 4 ½ to 10 years in prison. She was also sentenced to six years of probation and will have to pay more than $18,000 in restitution, according to the Inquirer.

On Aug. 14, Jankins’ car slammed into Nicole Gallo, 19, and Christine Bochanski, 20.  Gallo was killed instantly and Bochanski was hospitalized.

At the time of the accident Jankins told police she was playing with her iPod when her car lost control and never remembered hitting the women.

Blood test later proved she was under the influence of diflouroethane, and ingredient in “Dust Destroyer”, which was found in her car.
