Ex-Senator Vince Fumo in Philly for Resentencing

Prosecutors are hoping Fumo gets 17 to 22 years behind bars this time around.

Wednesday marks another go at the long-running legal showdown between prosecutors and former Pennsylvania Sen. Vince Fumo.

Fumo is serving a 4-1/2-year prison term for defrauding the state and two nonprofits out of more than $2 million.

But federal prosecutors appealed the sentence, and won a rare do-over.

The parties are due back in court Wednesday before Senior U.S. District Judge Ronald Buckwalter.

Prosecutors will seek a sentence within the 17- to 22-year guideline range.

Lawyers for the Philadelphia Democrat hope Buckwalter hands down the same sentence. Fumo has served more than two years.

The 68-year-old Fumo was one of the state's most powerful politicians over the last three decades.

A jury in 2009 convicted him of using the state senate and nonprofits to help fund his enviable lifestyle.
