Equipment Failure Causes Signal Problems for Local Verizon Customers

Verizon customers in Delaware and Chester Counties as well as police and fire radio in Montgomery County are experiencing problems to their service.

Service has been restored to all Verizon customers in Delaware, Chester and Montgomery Counties.

Circuit breakers tripped at Verizon’s office in Wayne Wednesday morning, causing computers that carry voice and data to lose power, according to a company spokesperson. The computers control Verizon land line phone services as well as police and fire dispatch radios. Cell phones were not affected.

The Chester County Department of Emergency Services released the following statement:

An equipment failure has occurred in the area of Wayne that has sporadically affected the Verizon phone service throughout Chester County.  As a result of this failure some residents may not be able to get a dial tone on their land line telephone.  Also some residents are experiencing Internet outages which will disable Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service.  Cell phones should not be affected by this equipment failure.

All received 9-1-1 calls are being answered as normal.

An official told NBC10 police and fire radio in Montgomery County also had signal issues. Police were able to communicate using backup systems.
