Disabled War Veteran's Car Stolen, Destroyed

A family took to GoFundMe to raise money for a new car after their vehicle was stolen and destroyed.

Charles, an Iraq veteran who suffers from PTSD, struggled to find a job until he met Jessica. Jessica, who had some troubles of her own, says she and Charles struggled to make ends meet when she lost her job after her company shutdown. But Charles’ Chevrolet Cobalt consistently helped them through their tough times, Jessica said. The Cobalt was especially useful after Jessica found out she was pregnant, and due mid-March.

But the two faced a new obstacle together on March 2, just a couple weeks before Jessica was due, when Charles’ Cobalt was stolen from outside of their apartment complex. The vehicle was found almost 24 hours later, Jessica wrote on the GoFundMe page, but was “unrecoverable.” Jessica says the car was a mile off a main road and stuck in mud in the woods. The car's windshields were broken, engine blown and body damaged.

“With our finances completely limited we struggle to make ends meet on some if not most days,” Jessica wrote.

Jessica and Charles decided to create the GoFundMe page to raise money for a new car. Now, after just two days, the family is well on their way to reaching their goal.

“We are so thankful and grateful for that we can’t even describe it,” Jessica said.

Charles says although he doesn’t like asking for help, he is overwhelmed by all the people willing to help his family.

“I feel blessed knowing there are complete strangers out there who want to help my family recover from this tragedy,” he said.

Jessica says although they are busy preparing for the baby, they are grateful for the opportunity to get a new car.
