NJ Woman Struck & Killed on Her Way to Work

Woman struck as she crossed Route 130 in Delran

A woman heading to work was struck and killed along Route 130 in Delran, N.J. this morning.

A car struck Christal Smith, of Delran, as she tried to cross the northbound lanes of Route 130 near Hartford Road around 6:40 a.m., according to a press release from Delran Police.

Smith, who worked at the nearby ShopRite grocery store was crossing on green in the crosswalk when she was stuck, police told NBC10's Claudia Rivero.

The driver, identified as Jonathan Bozarth, stopped and began life-saving measures, according to Delran Police.

Police say Bozarth said he didn't see Smith crossing. The crosswalk is the same place where a middle schooler was struck and killed about two decades ago.

SkyForce10 hovered overhead as only one lane of traffic got by on the three-lane highway as police investigated the crash.

Police on the scene continued to investigate as of 10:15 a.m. as traffic continued to get by, according to police.

No charges have been filed but police say they are looking into why the driver never saw Smith.
