A crash left one person dead and a stretch of Route 1 north of Dover, Delaware shut down Thursday afternoon.
Delaware State Police said several vehicles crashed just before 2 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 1 at Fast Landing Road.
Police said at least one person died in the crash. Information on injuries of others involved was not immediately available, and it was unclear exactly how many vehicles were involved.
State Police remained at the scene investigating after 3 p.m., and all of the lanes of Route 1 in both directions were shut down.
Traffic in the area backed up for several miles as an investigation into the crash continued.
