Cooper University Health Care Adds Operating Rooms to Meet Increasing Demand for Surgeries

Cooper University Health Care said Monday it has opened eight additional operating rooms to meet an increase in surgery demand.

The eight new ORs, including a special suite for vascular procedures at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, increase the total number of operating rooms system-wide at Cooper to 38. Cooper could not immediately provide a cost figure for the project.

“We are seeing an increase in all types of surgery at Cooper,” said Dr. Jeffrey P. Carpenter, the hospital's chief of surgery.

In addition to its hospital-based surgical suites at Cooper University Hospital, Cooper also operates an outpatient surgical center in Voorhees, New Jersey. The number of surgeries at those sites has grown 49 percent from 14,737 procedures in 2011 to 21,890 in 2017.
