2 More Arrested in Bridgeton Murder, Home Invasion

Men caught in Vineland over the weekend, face murder charges for death of a man during a home invasion

Two more men were arrested this week  in the shooting death of a New Jersey man inside his Cumberland County home earlier last month.

Jordan Davis, 19, of N Third Street in Millville was taken into custody Monday night while Jeremy Smith, 21, a resident of Vineland was arrested Tuesday morning, according to a release from Bridgeton Police Wednesday morning.

The two men are suspected of being involved in the shooting death of 40-year-old Kevin Pierce during an apparent home invasion inside Pierce's Bridgeton, N.J. home.

Davis and Smith both face murder, robbery, conspiracy and weapons charges. Both men were jailed -- Davis on $1 million bail, Smith on $1.5 million bail.

Also suspected in the case are Leon Saunders, 27, and Edward Copes, 31, who were arrested in Vineland early Saturday near the intersection of 3rd Street and Luciano Drive after a brief police chase, Bridgeton Police said Monday.

Bail was set for Saunders and Copes at $1.5 million each. They both face murder, conspiracy and weapons charges.

Police say that on April 20 around 10 p.m. four invaders entered the Pierce's home on Horton Street. Three of the four were armed, and only two were wearing masks, police said.

Cops say Pierce was taken into the basement of the home and shot three times. He died the next day at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

His girlfriend, April Casper, 40, was held at gunpoint inside the home, but was able to escape the home after the shooting, police said. She was not injured. Her 8-year-old son was on the second floor of the home and also wasn't injured.

After the shooting Bridgeton Police Captain Michael Gaimari says police believe the victim was a target, but didn't mention why. β€œThe investigation thus far has indicated that this was not a random home invasion and that we believe the victim possibly knew one or more of his attackers,” said Gaimari in a press release.

Police haven't ruled out making any more arrests in this case.
