Retrial in Remote Cabin Death Begins

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Thursday in southwestern Pennsylvania for the retrial of a woman charged with criminal homicide in a shooting death at a remote hunting cabin.

The (Washington) Observer-Reporter reports that opening statements in the Greene County trial of 41-year-old Lana Roe of Daisytown are expected Monday.

Another jury last fall convicted her 33-year-old husband, Jason, of first-degree murder in the August 2012 shotgun slaying of 38-year-old Cordele Patterson of Grindstone.

Jason Roe said he had gone to the cabin in search of guns stolen from his residence.  Authorities allege that Lana Roe was an accomplice in the murder.

Lana Roe said she fired a handgun in the air as she ran for cover after gunfire began, but she didn't intend to harm anyone.
