AC's Taj Mahal May Issue WARN Notices Soon: Source

A source close to the situation says that UNITE HERE Local 54 has been informed that WARN notices may be around the corner for employees of Atlantic City's Trump Taj Mahal.

Earlier Thursday, Trump Entertainment revealed in a petition to New Jersey casino regulators that it has been negotiating with lenders for more financial breathing room for the Taj.

Both Trump and regulators have been trying to extend a temporary agreement for lenders not to foreclose if the company defaults on its loans. The original agreement would have expired Aug. 18.

The Taj Mahal reported a gross operating profit of $1.8 million in the second quarter of this year, but that was down 69 percent from its performance in the second quarter of 2013.

Trump Entertainment's other Atlantic City casino the Trump Plaza is scheduled to close on September 16 making it the fourth Atlantic City casino to close this year.

Trump Plaza reported a $3.3 million quarterly loss, down from a $143,000 profit in the second quarter of last year.

A Trump Taj Mahal spokesman could provide no information when contacted by NBC10 tonight.
