3 Charged in $1.25M Fraud of Pa. Fatherhood Program

Pennsylvania authorities have charged a former state welfare official and two others with defrauding a welfare-to-work program of $1.25 million.

Officials say a whistleblower led a grand jury to investigate the alleged scheme, which involved a program to help parolees and other men become better fathers.

The three men charged include Bryon Noon of the Department of Public Welfare's defunct Bureau of Employment and Training Programs Division.

The others are Lawrence Yancey, also known as Kofi Asante, and Anthony McNeil. They ran the nonprofit National Comprehensive Center for Fathers.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane says the money was spent on lavish personal expenses, including limousine rides, political contributions and trips to Ghana and Las Vegas.

The defendants' phone numbers were not immediately available, and it's not clear if they have lawyers.
