A 90-year-old mother and her son were hospitalized after a fire ripped through their home in Montgomery County early Saturday morning.

Crews were called to the intersection of Sterigere Street and Montgomery Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m. in West Norriton Township.

Vera Cavello, 90, and Nicholas Cavello, 53, were flown to Temple University Hospital. Vera is in critical condition while Nicholas is stable, according to investigators.

A passerby and Mary McGlincy, their neighbor, saw the flames and called police.

β€œHe was great with his mother. He really took a care of her, he took care of the house and it’s just sad,” said McGlincy.

Fire investigators believe the fire started in the garage and quickly spread throughout the house. No word yet on what caused the blaze.
