16-Month-Old Boy Killed by Pennsylvania Dad's SUV: Police

State police are trying to determine how a Pennsylvania man ran over his 16-month-old son near their home.

Police say the boy, Michael Nice Jr., was killed while his father was making a U-turn on a street where he was parked near their home in Courtdale, near Wilkes-Barre, about 9 a.m. Monday.

Police handcuffed Michael Nice Sr. and took him to a hospital for a blood-alcohol test then released him without filing charges. Nice's family says he wasn't drinking and was headed to work a 16-hour shift.

Blood-alcohol tests are routinely administered to drivers involved in traffic fatalities.

Police planned to inspect Nice's sport-utility vehicle as part of the investigation.

The boy's mother, Nicole Gerow, says her son simply wanted another good-bye kiss from his father before he darted in front of the vehicle.
