1 Dead in NJ Turnpike Accident

The accident near Hightstown involved a tractor-trailer and a box truck

One person died in an overnight accident on the New Jersey Turnpike Tuesday morning.

New Jersey State Police say the accident happened around 12:30 a.m. near Hightstown, exit 8A, and involved a tractor-trailer and a box truck. 

The driver of the box truck, Phillip Frey, 33, of Toms River, N.J. died in the wreck.

They say the box truck was on fire.

An initial investigation didn't reveal an exact cause of the crash, New Jersey State Police said.

Southbound lanes were closed until around 6:30 a.m. in the area near the fatal accident and traffic was backed up for miles as vehicles were diverted off at Exit 9.
