Dear Harry: My wife and I are both approaching age 66. We intend to keep working until we're 70. If we do that, can she claim half of my Social Security benefits based on my age 70 benefits? I have heard conflicting stories as to whether she can do this or must be content with half of my age 66 benefits. Her own entitlement would be considerably less than either because she has worked for only the last 14 years and at a much lower salary.
